Hello Alice,

I have just put down your book and have felt almost like reading about myself. My name is Nicki I live in England and I have just been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis .I have just turned 40 and I have a T score of -31. I fractured  my vertebrae in 5 places last July when I picked up my 5 week old baby the doctors dismissed me and told me it was ligaments and I was too young for osteoporosis even though my mother has it.

At 28 I was diagnosed with Endometriosis and have had several laparoscopies to remove cysts, also put on medication. Then at 30 I had the flu and was in bed for a week I coughed and had awful chest pain, my mother was so worried as I had trouble breathing she took me to hospital. I was x rayed and scanned and it revealed that I had a pulmonary embolism also 2 fractured ribs .I was treated for the blood clot but the ribs were not mentioned.

I have recently been in The Daily Mail, English paper and also on the news on television trying to spread awareness that this is not a disease just for the elderly.

I have 4 children 15 yr old twins and a 9 yr old son and now baby Livvi who is a year.  I have to wear a corset to pick up Livvi and have been told I must not lift her as I may cause more fractures. I am in constant pain and on so many pain killers. I cannot work and have been registered disabled. I had Kyphoplasty in feb but as they operated on the vertebrae more fractures were made.

Reading your book I cried through most of it as I could see myself, once fit and healthy but now unable to walk without a stick!

I also forgot to mention that I have so far been unable to tolerate the 2 meds I was given for my bones so I am still untreated. I do hope your health is stable and I wish you well

Kind Regards

Nicki
